Alan Alonso Rivers is a Ph.D. student working in the structural performance of modern Slender Masonry Walls (SMWs) with slenderness ratios >30. He joined Dr. Cruz’s research group on September 2018, developing Finite Element (FE) numerical models of full-scale walls to aid the design of walls and to develop design recommendations at the service and ultimate limit states. These models will be calibrated by experimental full-scale walls testing, since CSA S304-14 tends to have stringent limits related to their strength and stability.
Alan has worked nine years as a Structural Engineer in Mexico designing houses of masonry, buildings (masonry or concrete), and industrial, oil, gas, and electricity facilities. He received his Master Degree in Structural Engineering from the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP) and his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Alan’s interested in the research of the behaviour of masonry, FE modelling, dynamic simulation of cracked structures and seismic engineering.
