Ziead Metwally will be a MSc student working on advanced numerical modelling and finite element reliability analysis of masonry walls. He will join Dr. Yong Li’s SM&RA (Structural Modelling and Reliability Analysis) research group in the Fall of 2019. He studied Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at Cairo University, in Egypt.
His research project in the Masonry Centre at University of Alberta will focus on finite element reliability analysis of masonry walls, in which FE models will be used to define the performance (limit state) function for masonry walls under the complex load conditions (e.g., both in-plane and out-of-plane). This aims to provide more insight into the out-of-plane behaviour of slender masonry walls under uncertain combined loads in the face of uncertainty.
